The Official Rules: Height & Throwing Distance
Dart Board Hight:
5 feet 8 inches ( 1.73 meters ) from the floor to the bullseye. Not the top of the board. Not the bottom. The bullseye.
This measurement is not random, it based on the average eye level of a player. No matter if you’re playing casually or in a professional setting, this is the standard height you should follow. So thinking If you’re 5’8”, stand straight, your eyes should be level with the bullseye, If you’re taller? Tough, but the rules don’t care.
Throwing Distance:
It’s a little different, it has two different conditions.
For steel-tip darts: 7 feet 9.25 inches ( 2.37 meters ) from the bullseye to the toe line ( the “oche” ). Yes, that random quarter-inch matters.
For soft-tip darts: 8 feet ( 2.44 meters ) flat for electronic boards.

How to Set Up Your Dartboard

Step 1: Mark the Dart Board Hight
You could use a tape to measure and mark 5 feet 8 inches from the floor to where the bullseye will be
In fact, for many players, they often put their dartboard on a drywall, you have to make sure that using a solid backing, like dartboard cabinet or a wooden board, to prevent damage.
Step 2: Measure the Throwing Distance
Measure 7 feet 9 1/4 inches (or 8 feet for soft-tip darts) from the dartboard face straight to the floor.
Be noted: don’t measure from your wall, because the thickness of the dartboard can throw off your distance, right!
When you down above 2 steps, you have to ensure a vertical alignment, it’s hard, If you could, you can use a plumb line or laser level to make sure the bullseye is directly above the oche. You know this can prevents any slight angle differences that could mess up your game.
